Moved to Slicehost
August 21st, 2008 | by Daniel |Just a quick note, I’ve moved the blog over to Slicehost. For $20 a month it’s a bargain and a breeze to set up. It’s basically like having a dedicated box colocated somewhere. I’ve moved most of my stuff over to this new box and I’m loving it so far.
I’m starting with a 256mb slice and if I need more it’s a breeze to bump it up to the next level. I get 100gb worth of traffic every month with this set up, and I think that should be fine for my purposes. I’ve been hosting all of my stuff on a Linux box on my home internet connection but I got tired of connection issues, power outages throwing my server online and low bandwidth.
Slicehost let’s you choose from about 6-8 different Linux distros and I chose Debian. I spent yesterday setting up MySQL, PHP, Apache and all their requirements along with some other stuff and today I’ve been moving my coding projects over and now this blog.
I haven’t done any performance testing or benchmarking, and I likely won’t because I’m lazy when it comes to that stuff, but if anyone notices anything bizarre happening let me know :).
