FLaiL – Walking the Thin Line Between Fun and Frustration

I’ve been playing FLaiL lately, a simple but rage-inducing platformer by some guy named Matt. For my sanity’s sake I typically don’t play games like this but I’m pretty hooked on this one, I think it’s because it’s just hard, not necessarily cruel. Most of the levels are easy once you know what you have to do and get the timing right.

In FLaiL you control a little guy (or girl if you prefer, the game itself makes no distinction) with the goal of getting across certain obstacles on the way to a shining red beam of light. Sounds pretty easy, until you realize that pretty much everything in the world kills you. All you can really do is run, jump, duck and “fly” (you can shoot yourself in one of eight directions once while you’re in the air, a glorified double jump essentially). Some of the more difficult levels require perfect timing and precision control, maybe even some imagination.

If you’re looking for a simple game that you can pick up and play when you’re bored, then download it, and if anyone makes it past 5-2 – I hate you.

I agree completely with your appraisal of 5-2

  2. Daniel says:

Yeah it’s a doozy… I eventually got past it, but not without a good amount of cursing.
